Eagle West Motorcycle Ride 2013

One of my annual favorites made its return to Eagle West this year: the company motorcycle ride on the weekend of July 13th & 14th.

We rendezvoused at Tim Hortons in Abbotsford under flawless skies. A total of 15 bikes and 23 riders left Tim’s shortly after 8 A.M. destined for Kamloops by way of Hope, Lytton, Lilloett, and Cache Creek.

Starting out we encountered a diesel oil spill on a corner as we entered Mission. This really got everyone’s heart rate up and fortunately there were no casualties.

A brief stop in Hope for fuel and coffee was all we needed to send us on our way up the canyon. The tunnels, mountains, and the mighty Fraser did not fail to provide splendid views and an amazing ride: Every rider’s dream!

The run up to Lilloett from Lytton on Hwy 12 was favorably warm with perfect road conditions. The pines, sage, and mountains peaks kept all our senses alive. Lunch in Lilloett was a welcome respite from the heat and then we were off to Cache Creek.

By the time we arrived in Kamloops, we were all ready to knock the dust off and quench a well-earned thirst. A very good meal and some libations were more than welcome. After a short walk back to the hotel, we got to enjoy a sunset and city lights from our lofty perch over the city on the cool grass.

Sunday morning was again perfect and we set off to Merritt via 5A, one of my favourite roads.
Merritt, through Lower Nicola on Hwy 8, led us to lunch at the historic and much “celebrated” biker pub, “The Log Cabin” in Spences Bridge.

A slogan on an old T-shirt came to mind as we rode south and its words were aptly suited for this leg of the trip. The long retired shirt said, “I would rather be out riding and thinking about God, than sitting in church thinking about riding”.

With some needing to catch ferries and such, the group disbanded and we all made our way down the canyon. Once home, text messages and bbm’s let us know that everyone had made it home safely. The only question raised was, “where are we going next year?”
