Rail Car Retirement – Jeff’s Dream

On February 26th & 27th Eagle West Cranes,a division of TNT Crane & Rigging Canada,  employed a dual crane hoist to mobilize a retired rail car to a local residence of Abbotsford British Columbia as the rail car’s final resting place.

With a passion for trains, Jeff, the new owner of the 83′ rail car, wanted to have a unique office on his residence and after months of searching he found a retiring passenger car in the mid west of the US to bring home. The rail car made it’s final voyage from the mid west, where it was an active circuit car bringing people round trip between Milwaukee and Chicago. After 47 plus years in service it was time to find this rail car it’s final resting place in Jeff’s yard.

Jeff’s vision for the train car was to use it as an office, a man cave and a place where the working kitchen could be used to house at risk youth from the community to help give them an opportunity to experience the rail car as well as learn some culinary skills within the small kitchen within the train.

After having the privileged of speaking with Jeff, it was pretty transparent that his passion for trains is only out done by his passion to encourage, help and build up other people. “I feel like I have been blessed with so much that when I get the chance to give back, I love to do it.” Jeff.

Here’s a brief video showing the rail car being hoisted onto a short set of tracks located at the front of Jeff’s yard. It’s a pretty impressive final product.
