OCTA-BLOC® Products
Our OCTA-BLOC® precast concrete blocks give commercial and industrial projects across BC a fast way to build a retaining wall, containment bin, or temporary structure without waiting on cast-in-place concrete to cure. We stock a full range of OCTA-BLOC® shapes and deliver and hoist them onto any site in the province, so your crew can start stacking the day the blocks arrive.
What Is an OCTA-BLOC® Used For?
An OCTA-BLOC® is an interlocking precast concrete unit used to build retaining walls, containment bins, temporary barriers, and foundations for short-term structures. Since the blocks lock together without mortar or fasteners, we can build a stable wall in a fraction of the time a poured wall takes, then disassemble and reuse the blocks once the project wraps up.

Available with delivery and hoisting included
Suited to almost any site environment, from active yards to remote lay-down areas
Installation & Design
Every OCTA-BLOC® is cast in a set mould, so each unit is formed to lock precisely into the ones beside and beneath it. That tight tolerance is what lets a crew stack a solid, uniform wall or bin without shimming or grouting joints. Our team handles the placement side of the job too. We deliver the blocks to your site and use our crane fleet to hoist and set them exactly where your layout calls for, whether that is a straight retaining run or a multi-sided containment bin.
How OCTA-BLOC® Compares to Standard Precast Blocks and Road Barriers
OCTA-BLOC® and a typical jersey barrier both use precast concrete and an interlocking connection, but they solve different problems. A jersey barrier is built with a sloped face specifically to redirect a vehicle on impact, which makes it the right call for traffic separation and perimeter security, not for holding back material. OCTA-BLOC®, by contrast, is shaped for stacking, with flat and tapered faces that let blocks sit several courses high and carry lateral load from soil, aggregate, or stored product behind them. Compared to a standard flat precast block, OCTA-BLOC®’s range of shapes, including half-blocks, tapers, and bench units, gives a site the pieces it needs to close corners, step down a grade, or cap a run cleanly, rather than relying on one block profile for every position in the wall.
Where OCTA-BLOC® Fits On Site
Two of the most common calls we get are for containment bins and temporary walls, and OCTA-BLOC® is built for both. For a containment bin, we set the blocks in a rectangle or a multi-bay layout to separate aggregate, soil, or waste material by type, and the interlocking faces keep the bin square under load without a poured footing. For a temporary wall, the same blocks go up as a straight or stepped run to hold back a slope during excavation, screen a laydown area, or shield adjacent work from an active site. Because nothing is mortared in place, we can pull the wall or bin apart and reset it somewhere else on the property once that phase of the project is done, a real advantage over a wall you would otherwise have to demolish.
Types of Available OCTA-BLOCS®

Technical Resources
Planning an OCTA-BLOC® layout mostly comes down to matching block count and profile to the run length, height, and any corners or steps in the site plan. Our team walks through that layout with you, and we can also provide our Block and Barrier Brochure with the full spec sheet for every configuration listed above. In British Columbia, a retaining structure taller than about 1.2 metres typically needs a permit and engineering sign-off, while shorter runs built for temporary use, like a containment bin or a short screening wall, are often exempt depending on the municipality. We coordinate the permit and safety clearance side of the job alongside delivery, so that piece does not fall on you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many OCTA-BLOCS® do I need for my project?
It depends on the run length and wall height you are planning. Send us your site dimensions and we will work out a block count and mix of profiles, including any tapers or half-blocks the layout needs.
Do I need a permit to build an OCTA-BLOC® wall in BC?
Often, yes, once a wall passes about 1.2 metres in height, though the exact threshold depends on your municipality and whether the structure is temporary or permanent. We can help coordinate the permit and safety clearance steps as part of the job.
What is the lead time on an OCTA-BLOC® order?
Lead time depends on the quantity and mix of profiles you need and how far the site is from our yard. Call us with your project details and we will give you a delivery window specific to your job.
Can OCTA-BLOC® be used for something other than a retaining wall?
Yes. Beyond retaining walls, we regularly set OCTA-BLOC® for containment bins, temporary structure foundations, and site screening. Its stacking profile makes it fit anywhere you need a stable barrier without a poured footing.
How is OCTA-BLOC® different from a jersey barrier?
A jersey barrier’s sloped face is built to manage vehicle impact for traffic control. OCTA-BLOC® is built to stack and carry lateral load, which is what makes it the better choice for a wall, bin, or backfilled structure rather than a roadway barrier.
Can an OCTA-BLOC® wall or bin be taken apart and reused elsewhere on site?
Yes. Since the blocks interlock without mortar, we can disassemble a wall or bin once a project phase ends and reset it in a new configuration or location, one of the main reasons crews choose OCTA-BLOC® over a poured structure for anything temporary.
