Tilt-Up Construction

Tilt-Up Construction Crane Services

At Eagle West Crane & Rigging, we provide the crane power that BC’s tilt-up construction crews build around. Using our Liebherr 270 or 500-ton crane, we lift and set concrete wall panels in a matter of days rather than weeks, which matters most when a project has a tight deadline. Give us a call at 1-800-667-2215 and we will quote your next tilt-up job.

How Does a Crane Help with Tilt-Up Construction?

Tilt-up construction casts each wall panel flat on the building’s own concrete slab, then waits for the concrete to reach the strength needed to lift it. Once that strength is confirmed, our crew connects to the embedded lifting inserts with cables and spreader bars, and the crane rotates the panel from horizontal to vertical in a single controlled pick. From there, we hold the panel steady while it is walked into position, braced against the slab, and tied off until the roof and structural connections lock it permanently in place.

A finished tilt-up panel is heavy. Depending on the wall height, thickness, and reinforcing, a single panel can weigh well over 100,000 pounds, and the largest sections on a project run considerably heavier still. We size the crane to the panel, never the other way around, so there is always reserve capacity in the pick rather than a lift performed at the edge of its rating. Ground conditions matter just as much as the panel itself: a crawler crane concentrates enormous pressure through its tracks, and soft or uneven soil on a tilt-up site can settle under that load if it isn’t accounted for ahead of time. Our lift planning team reviews ground bearing and wind speed before the crane ever mobilizes, and we bring in mats or plating where the site calls for it.

Our Liebherr Fleet and the Support that Comes With it

Our Liebherr 270 and 500-ton cranes give tilt-up contractors the reach and capacity to set full building perimeters in days instead of stretching the schedule into weeks. Behind the crane, we back every tilt-up job with lift planning and engineering support, including load calculations and structural analysis specific to the panel sizes on your drawings. Our crane operators are Red Seal certified and hold BC Crane Safe credentials, and our crews work COR certified, so the rigging, the pick, and the panel placement are handled by people who have set tilt-up walls before.

We also handle the pieces around the lift itself. Our team coordinates permits and safety clearances ahead of mobilization, manages the project onsite so the pick sequence matches your construction schedule, and can bundle trucking and storage into the same engagement so your general contractor is dealing with one crew instead of several. That one-stop approach is part of why tilt-up contractors bring us back project after project rather than sourcing a crane separately every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a tilt-up crane job take?

It depends on the panel count and site access, but an experienced crew can set a large number of panels in a single day once the concrete has cured. Most tilt-up building envelopes come together in days rather than weeks once our crane mobilizes.

What size crane do we need for a tilt-up project?

It comes down to your heaviest panel and the radius the crane needs to reach it at. We review your panel weights and lift radii during lift planning and bring the Liebherr 270 or 500-ton crane, whichever gives us the reserve capacity the pick calls for.

Can your cranes handle soft or uneven ground on a tilt-up site?

Yes. We assess ground bearing conditions as part of lift planning and bring mats or plating when the soil needs help supporting a crawler crane’s track pressure.

Do you provide lift planning and engineering, or just the crane?

Both. Our lift planning and engineering team runs load calculations and structural analysis before the crane arrives, so the pick is designed around your specific panels rather than a generic plan.

What certifications do your operators hold?

Our operators are Red Seal certified with BC Crane Safe credentials, and our crews work COR certified.

Do you handle rigging as well as the crane?

Yes. Specialty rigging is part of what we bring to a tilt-up job alongside the crane itself, so the same crew handles the connection to the panel and the pick.
